Cockburn Recreation Centre

  • Cockburn
  • Multi-use sporting and community recreation centre, with sporting field and spectator viewing stands to suit 400 people.

This project is providing a new recreation hub for City of Cockburn & is also relocating the existing Cockburn Bowling & Recreation Club to modern new facilities.

The project brings together 4 sporting clubs of lawn bowls, futsal, beach volleyball and tennis, and community function and hospitality facilities that was a welcome addition to the Spearwood amenity. Fratelle were involved with the City of Cockburn from the outset, masterplanning the site and assisting with the successful application for federal funding to complete the project.

Working with many different stakeholders – each with different needs across the site was challenging, and the building needed to be multi-functional as a result.

The form of the building is designed to be viewed from all sides, including from above as the site is set down about 10 metres below the adjacent rod with a sloping topograghy. The material palette of concrete, limestone and steel was chosen to be hard wearing, long lasting and timeless.
